Welcome to the Mert's Heart and Soul employee spotlight. We want you to meet the team that serves up some of the tastiest dishes in the Queen City. Next up is Tia Bazzelle, a cook/manager at the restaurant (yes, she's following in her dad's footsteps):

Time worked at Mert's:
I've worked at Mert's for nine years.

The best part about working at Mert's:
The best part about working at Mert's is that it's a family business. I learn so much from them everyday.

What's special about Mert's:
For starters, Mert's is unique because we serve a variety of southern, Low Country dishes. It's also a great place to work because the atmosphere is so welcoming. I've been able to meet some great people by working here.

How does it feel to continue a family tradition:
I have some big shoes to fill, but my family has done a great job of preparing me. I've been working in the industry since I was 12 years-old. I started out washing dishes for a local movie production company and then helped out at our previous restaurant, G.A. on Tryon. This experience and my degree from Johnson & Wales University is helping me keep the family tradition going strong.

Favorite item on the Mert's menu:
My favorite item on the Mert's menu is definitely the collard greens.

Famous people you've served at Mert's:
North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue, Anthony Hamilton, Lisa Ray, Chauncey Billups, Carmelo Anthony, Dave Chappelle, and Big Boi from OutKast.
